Lucy's story

Hi! My name is Lucy I am 29, I would say I am one of the more curvier pole attendees.

I have struggled my whole life with my confidence and my weight, I feel in love with the gym and exercise about 2 years ago and progressed to pole from there.

When did you start pole?

Around July 2021

What made you first try pole?

I went with my sister in law as moral support because she wanted to attend the class.

What does life consist of outside of pole?

I have 2 kids who I adore, I work full time as a lawyer and I love going to the gym which I try to do 4 - 5 times a week.

How often do you pole a week?

Once a week with the occasional private session.

Any comments about your pole journey so far?

My pole journey has been just that, I started off shy insecure, felt like I was too overweight to participate but something and someone (Becki) kept pushing me to come back and keep trying.

I can honestly say that my confidence has increased, I've gone from hiding and being frustrated to trying anything and everything wearing almost nothing. I share photos online without a care in the world and I've learnt that no-one cares about the number on the scales but you, you should be proud of who you are and what your body can achieve.

I don't know if I would have reached the point i am mentally without pole.

Favourite move and nemesis or most hated move?

Lay back- I have thick thighs and it's one I could do early on, or a handstand, I do love a good handstand.

If you could give any words of advice to someone thinking about trying pole, what would it be?

Embrace it, don't shy away because of your own insecurities, try new things and appreciate what you can do. Don't compare yourself to others everyone is different that's the beauty of being human.
